All Work and No Play Makes Jill A Dull Girl (and Jack a very dull boy)

I ran across this really cool blog and I thought I'd share it with you. So many of my colleagues have an artistic side and this site has some really cute projects.

Paper Crafts Connection is all about - well paper crafts. Check it out:

Enjoy! And feel free to pass along links to other blogs which might be of interest. Just because we work in a law firm doesn't mean we're not cool!

Seriously, this is like the bible for secretaries!

A great investment for the legal professional just starting out in their career and a wonderful refresher for the more experienced.

Things Your Mother Obviously Never Taught You

Okay, I'm cool. Really, I am. I'm a liberal. I do me and you do you. Live and let live. But seriously, seriously, what is it about some people who have no clue as to what is appropriate office attire?

A facebook friend the other day wrote on her wall post, "Since when is it okay to show your stomach at work?" Now, this friend is under 30. And even she knows what is okay and what is not.

I am so tired of seeing these women (and men), however, lately, I've noticed it more with women who are either in the middle of a huge mid-life crisis or just have absolutely no clue that they look ridiculous wearing the most God-awful "crap" at work!

And where are all the office administrators? I think some of them are either a) too lazy to notice; b) too afraid to say anything or c) in the wrong position.

Without getting into too much detail, I would just like to say that the below is a reasonable guide to follow:

Not too short

Not too low

Not too tight

Not ripped

We don't want to see your tramp stamps and that little "Y" doesn't even look good on the plumber.

When in doubt, save it for weekends.

"I'm Gonna Wash That Gray Right Out of My Hair"*

Remember when Friday nights were made for fun? Well, maybe some of you are still having fun and if you are - here's to you. But, for me, Friday night is a chance to get a jump start on all the fun chores I have waiting for me over the next two days before it's time to head back to work.

Earlier in my work career, I couldn't wait for 5 o'clock on Friday. There was always a favorite spot, a new spot, a "happy hour," a new club. But, after a certain point, as the comedian Chris Rock once said, "Nobody wants to be the oldest guy (or woman) in the club."

So, tonight, my "happy hour" consisted of a pizza and a bottle of Pellegrino. Boring? Maybe. But, it is what it is. And to cap off my evening, I just finished coloring my hair. Isn't that exciting? Well, to be honest, it's what I've been waiting for all week-long. Friday night at my in-home hair salon. Because I don't want to be the oldest gal in the office.

Oh, I know, it's a whole new day and "30 is the new 20," and "40 is the new 30" and "50 is the new 40," but somewhere along the line, somebody forgot to relay that message to my roots. Some women look super sexy and stylish with gray hair. I have some very good friends and colleagues who are absolutely gorgeous with gray hair and they don't look old at all. But my hair just doesn't go gray well.

I mean, I read "Us Weekly," I tweet, I'm on facebook. . .hey, I'm cool. But my hair isn't.

So, my question to you is - is gray hair a hindrance in the workplace?

"I Remember Nothing" by Nora Ephron

Nora Ephron does it again. I thought that "I Feel Bad About My Neck" was one of the funniest books I've ever read. In fact, I've read it at least twice. I can't remember.

This morning on the train, I started to read her latest, "I Remember Nothing." I was laughing out loud. People were looking at me like I was nuts. I didn't care. That's how funny it is.

I would wait to give you the full review after I've finished, but like Nora Ephron, I don't want to forget to tell you about it.

Trust me - the price of this book is much cheaper than therapy. And that's what it feels like. Laughter therapy. Too funny.
